Funko LLC, makers of the Wacky Wobblers line, has spilled over into video games. A Sonic and a Mortal Kombat line are set to release in the next two months. The Sonic line comes first, featuring three characters:
The Mortal Kombat line, shipping in July, features:
Both sets are about six inches tall, and will sell between $10-$15.
This set of New Super Mario Bros. Wii items work in the bath by getting a little wet and then sticking to the tile. These are popular in Japan and the USA because of the no-residue sticking for fun in the bath. Sticks to many surfaces, as all that is needed is a little water.
The character shapes vary between one and four inches, depending on the character. There are 15 different stickies, and the price for the set in Japan is ¥714 (~$8.85). The set also includes a mat with a scene from the game and a bag to keep all of the stickies in. A shot of the set is after the break.
Ensky is set to release some genius on the world in the form of some Super Mario Fighting Spinning Tops, or Kenkagoma Koma. These tops are spun with string and released at the same time. The tops "fight" by bumping into one another and the last top spinning wins. Looks like we have a design with Mario and Luigi, Mario and some items, and Mario and Yoshi.
Here is a video showing how the famous Japanese toy tops work.
Thanks again Genome and Sleepy Snake for the eagle eye!
The New Super Mario Bros. Wii flood of merchandise cannot be stopped. Now, a series of rubber strap keychains is being released, featuring items and enemies known and loved. Star, Propeller Mushroom, Penguin Suit, Bullet Bill, Boo, and Piranha Plant (possibly the Jumping Piranha Plant) are seen in the set. It's a little odd because an unlicensed company has been releasing rubberized representations of the Mario gang for quite some time, selling them as Croc shoes attachments, earrings, and other things. It's nice to see some official ones though, and to have the company info right there in text next to the character on the strap helps, too.
Another shot of the items in real life is after the break.
Thanks to Genome and Sleepy Snake for the detective work!
The last set of stationary must have sold well enough to warrant another round, as Takara Tomy A.R.T.S. has unleashed another full set. While there appears to be no new items in the set, each returning item is slightly different from the last set. The stamps are different, the colors of the items are different, and even the characters on the tape are different. The pad of paper is Penguin Mario shaped, which I thought was a nice touch.
There are no online retailers listing this as a pre-order just yet, but it is available now in Japan.
Club Nintendo updated today with two new prize items. First is a Donkey Kong Country Returns soundtrack that includes 25 of the "greatest hits" from the game. Personally I prefer full game soundtracks, but as an official Nintendo soundtrack has not appeared in some time, I'll take what I can get. Second is a set of Kirby pouches that come in red and blue varieties inspired by Kirby's Epic Yarn. The detail pic does not show that a system could fit in the pouch, but instead shows lip balm and other items. 13cm x 9cm (5" x 3.5") suggests that they are quite small.
Hot Toys is creating this Milla Jovovich 28cm figure from the Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D movie. A load of accessories come bundled, including outfits, hand poses, hairstyles, and of course, zombie-slaying weapons. The figure will be available later this year, nearly a year after the movie . . . that was only so successful.
Jazwares has never been known for great detail when it comes to their video game figure lines. Mortal Kombat is no exception, but these figures are so riddled with articulation points that it is difficult to like the figures from a collection standpoint. Still, if you like the M-rated gore-fest and still like to play with action figures, this set is for you! There are four figures in this first series of 6" figures, with a fifth exclusive version coming to Comic Con this summer. Perhaps Jazwares' upcoming 3.75" line will strike more favor with the collecting crowd.
Bandai's D-Arts Rockman line has been a blessing for fans of the series, with each new announced figure being more enticing than the last. Now, we see X in his full armor from the first game. He will, as seen at the 2011 Toy Fair, be sold in a Dr. Light Capsule. September looks to be the date for release, which means that the line is very popular because the figures have been coming in closer and closer succession.
The figure will include two hand parts, right arm part, hand wrist, shot effect parts, and charge shot effect parts. I really hope that the shot parts include the double powered-up shot from the game. It may be difficult to make into something that attaches to the buster, but it was one of the coolest things to witness from that gaming era.
Diamond Select Toys' own Art Asylum is still churning out MiniMates, those blocky fragile figures based on a veritable array of media. The next collection sets its sights on some exclusive Playstation icons. The set includes:
• Uncharted series - Nathan Drake and Chloe Frazer
• Resistance series - Nathan Hale and Advanced Hybrid
• Ratchet and Clank series - Ratchet and Clank
• Jak and Daxter series - Jak and Daxter
These characters look incredibly odd in this style, but the unique look has always been the selling point for the MiniMates line.
The Big Daddy Bouncer Ultra Deluxe Figure will display it's mood based on the LEDs placed in the figure. Green, Yellow, or Red can be displayed at the flip of a switch. These should replace all traffic lights. No real word on important details like articulation or size, but it's not long to wait to find out. This is set to release in June 2011, so happy Father's Day to all the Big Daddys out there!
A massive figure of a plain Sackboy from LittleBigPlanet is next up in Mezco's line of toys. Massive in this sense meanign about nine inches. This figure will have five points of articulation and will appear in a windowbox packaging. Great for collectors of sealed stuff who also want to display!
Ships late October or early November this year. Could this be the start of something . . . big?
Saw this at Hot Topic the other day and was surprised that Mario was moving in this direction. Mario merchandising has infiltrated nearly every market, but do we really need a Mario lip balm . . . that's cherry cola flavored?
Not only that, but Mario's name is the excuse to attempt to sell it at $3.99 per stick.
There is a listing at the NIS America Online Store for a Disgaea 4 Limited Edition set called the "Promise Unforgotten Premium Figure Set". The bundle contains the following items:
• Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten Premium Box
- Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten for PS3
- Full color, softcover artbook
- Fuka figurine
• Complete Disgaea 4 Nine Figure Set ($72 value)
• Free Bonus Disgaea 4 OST
Wow. The release date says sometime this September with pre-orders opening up in July.
Thanks Sleepy Snake!
Two Mario bead sets with various colored beads and patterns are being released in Japan. Fans have been making these for years, so why not market them? Each set comes with three characters each to make (both include a Mario pose naturally), but the beads can of course be combined to make larger characters. The kit includes beads, patterns, paper, directions, a grid for bead placement, and even some keychain straps to add when you're finished with the craft.
Price at retail in Japan is ¥525 (~$6.50). Hit the jump for an opened pack.
Many gamers are looking forward to the 3D remake of the best game ever made, coming out this June. Many gamers are also wondering if this will mean new merchandise for the game which spawned the most merchandise for the Zelda series. The answer so far has been yes, but has only been posters and cases. However, it looks like Greece, of all places, has really decided to dive in and make some unique merch pieces truly worth scrounging for. The set consists of a logo keychain, a green hat with logo, and another pouch with the new amazingly beautiful art on it. The two most coveted prizes, which will come in very limited quantities, are an ocarina and some Deku Tree seeds in a can.
Not much chance of anyone but Greeks getting their hands on these, as you have to pre-order through the Nintendo Greece website. Still, there's always price-gouging on auction sites. *sigh*
Good luck out there collectors!
Catch pictures of the pouch and hat after the jump.
If you pre-order Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition from the Capcom Store, you will receive a "Dark Hado Bobble Budd Set" that contains Oni and Evil Ryu. This post will be updated with more photos when they appear at the Capcom Store. The game is $39.99, and will be available for purchase June 28th. It does not appear that these Bobble Budds will be available solo in the store, so now's your chance.
On the eve of the release of the Rockman X D-Arts figure comes the reveal of the next in line, X's partner and sometimes adversary, Zero. The description from the listing says that this may be the first figure where Zero's hair is articulated. What will they think of next? Seen in the shot are parts for the Z-Buster.
It can be pre-ordered now for $39.99 and will supposedly ship in September, but you can get it faster, but more expensively, by importing from Japan.
With this reveal came some box art and more pics of the X figure. You can see those after the jump.
Sylvia Christel, the femme fatale/love interest from the No More Heroes series, is getting her own figure based on how she appears in promotions for the second game. Holding the beam sword in a certainly provocative and dangerous position, and almost reaching nine inches in height, this polyvinyl chloride figure will certainly turn heads. The beam sword is also removable.
The MSRP from Yamato's Creator's Labo is around $150, but discounts from importers peg it at an average of $135. AmiAmi or are good places to start. She will be released some time in September 2011.
