Another round of Mario patches has been spotted in Japan, and is certainly living up to the previous set. I think Mario looks even better than last time and the other patches in the set look very detailed as well. It looks like the best bet would be YJA with a proxy service for these, as neither set has been found in any of the import shops.
Keep 'em coming, there are plenty of characters and items yet to be done!
The first batch of Super Mario Land 3D merchandise has been uncovered, and its a set of stylus straps. The set contains 6 different stylus styles (try saying that one 5x fast) each with a different character/item dangler and color. Now, these certainly aren't the most exciting pieces, but it gives me high hopes for a 3D Land flood.
Can't get enough of the classic pixel Mario? Or is modern Mario more your thing? Either way, you're in luck because KeysFactory is bringing Japanese gamers 4 styles of Super Mario 3DS protective cases which feature artwork new and old (...and somewhat irrelevant). What's up with those bunches of bananas on the white one? This isn't Donkey Kong!
Anyways, you can get your hands on one (or all four!) with a proxy service via AmiAmi for 990 Yen each.
Super Mario Land 3D comes out on November 13th (only one month away!), and the first preorder bonus has been announced. Also, both Club Nintendo Japan and North America have added new rewards. Just crack open this Promo Press to see more pics and details!
In this edition:
-Club Nintendo NA Handheld cards
-Club Nintendo JP 3DS styli
-Super Mario Land 3D preorder bonus
In honor of Zelda's 25th anniversary, Nintendo has released special edition points cards in Japan and North America. There are three designs; Ocarina of Time, Skyward Sword, and a gorgeous artwork featuring the many Links of the series (I counted 16). According to the anniversary site, North American retailers will sell two of these designs (of course we miss out on the Links one) from October to February.
I can't imagine that Nintendo made that stunning piece of Links artwork solely for the points card, so hopefully we will see it on future pieces of anniversary merch. Give us posters!
Quite a few new promos have been tracked down in the past few weeks and we've got a loaded edition of the Promo Press prepared. This update is sure to please many fans with new Star Fox, Zelda, Mario and even Bit.Trip promos. Here's what we've got:
-Starfox 64 3D and Bit.Trip preorder bonuses
-Club Nintendo UK update
-Zelda Gamescom merch

Not only do we have the usual set sheets, the Pokemon World Championships were held a few weeks ago; meaning a bunch of promo swag! Here's the run-down:
-World Championships 2011 Merch
-Metal Pokemon keychains
-Pokemon office supplies
Just jump after the break for more Pokemon merch info and pics!
New Mario candies are out in Japan, but what's neat about these is that they come wrapped in New Super Mario Bros. Wii mini-cloths. The set consists of 8 cloths, with what appears to be Ice Mario, Peach, Bowser, Propeller Mario, Mario riding Yoshi, Penguin Mario, Luigi and Yellow Toad. These should be from Sun Art, who made a previous set of Mario cloths, but pricing is unknown. Certainly an odd way to distribute Mario merchandise!
Via Kikai's blog, which is a great resource for Japanese Mario merchandise.
A big set of Mario wall clings and a few new Mario Kart pullbacks popped up in Toys 'R Us stores this week. The wall clings come in two types, the large one sticker packs ($24.99 each, 3 styles) or the packs of about 30 smaller stickers ($12.99, 4 styles). With the big ones, you got the choice of Bowser, Mario in Kart or Mario riding Yoshi, and the smaller packs come in Mario Kart Wii, New Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Super Mario varieties; plenty to choose from! The Mario Kart pullbacks is a small set of three, consisting of Mario, Luigi, and Wario in their standard Wii karts.

These days, so many games receive collector's/special edition versions, it's almost a given for a big game to have one...unless it's a Nintendo game. Despite their track record, Nintendo has announced that there will be a limited edition version of Skyward Sword, which will include the gold Zelda Wiimote that was shown during the E3 conference. The bundle will run you $70 and includes the controller, 25th anniversary orchestra soundtrack CD and the game; a very fair price! Fans who buy just the game on launch day/preorder early will also receive the orchestra CD as a free bonus. Hopefully this sparks a load of special edition Nintendo releases!
Now, let me return to drooling over that awesome box art.
August has been a slow month for video game merchandise, but Gamescom was able to deliver with a few new Nintendo promos. Nintendo Dream, which is known for including merchy premiums, recently gave readers Ocarina of Time 3D books with the magazine.
-Gamescom Nintendo pins
-Nintendo Dream Ocarina of Time 3D booklet
For more details and pics jump after the break.
Earbuds with Mario character charms have been starting to pop up in Gamestops for $9.99 each (not bad!). It would be nice if there were more styles and colors to choose from, but so far there is only the Mushroom charm with white earbuds on the Project-Sustain site. It is unknown if these will appear in other retailers, but they do not appear to be a Gamestop exclusive.
There is a ton of video game merchandise out there from all sorts of companies for countless games and characters, it's hard to keep track of it all! That's why VGMM is bringing you 'Swag Showcase', a column in which we discuss all the merchandise for a certain game, character, or from a certain company; new and old. In each edition, expect a round-up of all the blog posts relating to what is being covered (if current), a detailed history of its merchandise, opinion/analysis from the blog writers and forum members, and collector's tips for some of the pieces. First up is Ocarina of Time 3D; so grab a snack and prepare a notepad because this is going to be a detailed look at all of the merchandise for Ocarina of Time 3D.
Yet another set of mini Wii consoles has been released in Japan, and it consists of the black Wii with 1 of 8 different games. What's cool about this set (and the previous ones) is that each one comes with the micro console and game case which contains a replica disc that can even be inserted into the tiny Wii. Too bad it doesn't come with the hookups, how are we supposed to play it?
No word of these being up for sale/preorder in import shops, but they have been appearing on YJA.
Hot off the heels of new Mario 'Chucks', Bandai is releasing Mario children's socks in Japan. The first batch includes Yoshi and 2 Mario pairs (different sizes), but with so few styles, it certainly looks like we will be seeing more characters getting socked down the road. I love how these have a little box to write a name in, nothing is more embarrassing than wearing someone else's socks!
Many fans are disappointed that Nintendo has no plans as of yet to localize to North America, but elsewhere, the company is treating Europe and Australia with the game and merchy promos. In France, the first 1000 fans to register Xenoblade on Club Nintendo will receive a huge 200 page art book. It's nice seeing Club Nintendo promotions like this (just like with the Ocarina of Time 3D soundtrack) because they are great bonuses for the most avid fans; hopefully we will see a lot more of these in the future! In Australia, the first run of Xenoblade games will come packaged with a 12 song soundtrack and can be preordered at select retailers (releases September 1st).
Hopefully it will be localized and spawn even more awesome promos!
In Japan, a massive Rhythm Heaven soundtrack is going to be released to coincide with the Wii entry in the series. The soundtrack not only includes all the songs in the new Wii game, but will also have all the songs from the previous two games in the series; resulting in a whopping 177 tracks on the disc. The soundtrack releases on August 24th for ¥4800, but non Japanese fans will have to import it to get their fix of Rhythm Heaven's preposterously catchy tunes.
Although there have been 2 Megaman game cancellations this year, Capcom hasn't entirely forgotten about the Blue Bomber; they have added the new We are ROCK-MEN album to the e-Capcom shop. The album consists of 15 tracks from the Megaman and Megaman X series arranged by a few members of the Capcom sound team.
Club Nintendo JP receives a new reward, Famitsu September issue includes a Kirby bonus and North America's Rayman Origins preorder bonus.
-Club Nintendo JP Mario notebooks
-Kirby Mass Attack beach ball
-Rayman Origins preorder T-shirt
