I've wrestled with this for as long as I've collected.
I've been trying to predict how rare something will be later when it first comes out, not for reselling purposes, but more for budgeting. I try to find out what will sell out fast and be hard to come by later, so I can wait on certain things and focus on other things that may disappear too quickly.
I have failed for many years.
For example, I'm predicting that the new Zelda metal items set will come and go in the blink of an eye just like the others, or will the manufacturer wise up and build a bigger production run for the demand? Guess we'll see . .
Some Mario plushes that I've expected to disappear are still available, but others have been harder to find that I expected to be common.
I know what is more popular, and I know the fan trends, but I don't know production runs or where they are distributed.
The recent set of Epoch toys
have proven hard to get a hold of, and I thought they would be easier. Then, all of a sudden, they popped up again. Release gap? Re-release? Production hiccup? Just weird.
